Hayden Christensen cast as Shadow in Sonic 3, says insider

Has Star Wars actor Hayden Christensen been cast as Shadow in Sonic 3?

Video game to live-action movie adaptations over the decades has been somewhat of a curse, but that trend has most certainly improved in recent years and leading the way have been the likes of the live-action Sonic the Hedgehog movies.

Some of the notoriously bad video game to movie adaptations that come to mind include House of the Dead, Alone in the Dark, Silent Hill: Revelation and DOOM to name a few. However, if handled with the respect that property deserves, HBO’s The Last of Us, to a certain degree, Detective Pikachu and the topic of today’s discussion, the aforementioned Sonic the Hedgehog prove that such adaptations can be successful.

Check out the Sonic the Hedgehog 2 trailer below!

The first movie in the blue speedsters franchise was released in 2020 and while the critic score garnered a mundane 63% on Rotten Tomatoes, the audience let their voices be known with an impressive score 93%. Its 2022 sequel also scored in the same ballpark earning 69% (nice) and 96%, respectively. So you can bet that expectations are high ahead of the trilogy completion which will introduce the brooding antihero, Shadow.

The Sonic the Hedgehog movie franchise has been cast brilliantly with Ben Schwartz as Sonic, Jim Carrey as Dr Robotnik and Idris Elba as Knuckles, the latter arriving in the sequel. At this time, the actor to play Shadow in Sonic the Hedgehog 3 hasn't been announced, but an insider claims that Anakin Skywalker actor Hayden Christensen is set to portray the role.

According to known entertainment insider Daniel Richtman via his Patreon, he claims that Hayden Christensen will be cast as Shadow the Hedgehog which has led to some on social media dubbing the casting as “Darth Shadow”. Which to be fair, would be quite a decent name for a created character in Star Wars: Knights of the Old Republic.

At this time, Hayden Christensen hasn't been announced as Shadow in Sonic the Hedgehog 3, so we should take the reports with a pinch of salt until proven otherwise. That being said, I am a firm believer in there being no smoke without fire.

Sonic the Hedgehog 3 is currently scheduled to be released in cinemas this year on 20 December. Will Sonic the Hedgehog 3 follow in the footsteps of its predecessors and be another successful video game to live-action movie adaptation? Only time will tell.
