Ahmed Best is reprising his role of Jar Jar Binks in a new Star Wars special, a role he hasn’t touched since 2005.

Jar Jar Binks is quite possibly the most-hated character in all Star Wars media, and stirred up quite the controversy following his debut in 1999’s The Phantom Menace.

Now the character is returning as the Darth Jar Jar, in the new Rebuild The Galaxy special, check it out below

Ahmed Best, who provided the voice and motion capture for the character throughout the prequels, received an intense wave of hate for taking on the role, which was so severe that it seriously impacted his mental health for many years.

The backlash has since died down, with Best even returning to the Star Wars universe in a flashback episode of The Mandalorian where he played a Jedi Knight who helps Grogu escape Coruscant.

His return to a galaxy far, far away hasn’t stopped there though, as Ahmed Best is confirmed to return for the Lego TV special, Lego Star Wars: Rebuild The Galaxy as Darth Jar Jar.

Darth Jar Jar has been a fan-favourite theory and what-if? character for several years now, with many half-jokingly speculating that he’ll appear in one of the films one day as its big-bad.

Now the character will finally make an official appearance, though it’s unclear if Darth Jar Jar will play an important role in the story or if he’ll just be a quick gag character.

The animated special will also tackle a number of other alternate Star Wars scenarios, like if the ewoks became bounty hunters, and if the Republic became just as evil as The Empire did.

Lego Star Wars: Rebuild The Galaxy will premiere on Disney+ later this year, on 13 September, and will be split into four parts.
