Star Wars: The Acolyte trailer drops, teasing a dark new era

The first trailer for upcoming Star Wars series The Acolyte has arrived.

After a very cool poster appeared online yesterday, Lucasfilm has now dropped the first trailer for the upcoming Star Wars series The Acolyte - and oh my, it looks very good indeed.

Consisting of eight episodes, The Acolyte is set to premiere on Disney Plus later this year, on 4 June to be exact.

It should feel fairly different to recent Star Wars projects given that this prequel marks the first time that the High Republic era has been explored in live-action.

If you’re not in the know with your Star Wars timeline, this places The Acolyte as happening around 100 years before the events of Star Wars: Episode I - The Phantom Menace.

The series is described as being set in a world of “shadowy secrets and emerging dark side powers”. It’ll see a former Padawan reunite with her Jedi Master to investigate a string of crimes but what they uncover turns out to be far more sinister than they ever anticipated.

Surely that’s piqued your interest? Let’s take a look at the show in action.

Watch the brand new trailer for Star Wars: The Acolyte below.

Oo, it’s so promising. The Acolyte stars Amandla Stenberg (The Hunger Games), Lee Jung-jae (Squid Game), Dafne Keen (Logan), Manny Jacinto (The Good Place), and Carrie-Anne Moss (Jessica Jones), alongside Jodie Turner-Smith, Rebecca Henderson, Charlie Barnett, and Dean-Charles Chapman.

Alongside the trailer, it was announced that The Acolyte will have a two-episode premiere, with the remaining episodes then airing weekly which means that 4 June is going to be a very prosperous day.

The Acolyte isn't the only Star Wars series set to air this year with The Skeleton Crew also due to drop in 2024. It's believed that this will land towards the end of the year. All in all, Star Wars fans continue to eat well.
