Star Wars: Princess Leia's A New Hope dress set to make a dizzying amount at auction

The Princess Leia dress worn by Carrie Fisher in Star Wars is set to make a dizzying amount at auction.

When it comes to pop culture behemoths, the Star Wars franchise is one of the most popular forms of entertainment in the galaxy.

With that in mind, certain related treasures can garner quite hefty sums at auction. One such treasure is Princess Leia’s dress, worn by the late great Carrie Fisher. The dress in question was worn during Star Wars: Episode IV - A New Hope.

As reported by IGN (via The New York Times), the stunning dress, which featured in the final scene in the Throne Room where everyone but Chewie gets a medal, is expected to sell for as much as $2 million. Yes, two million dollars with six zeros.

Despite being over 40 years old, the dress is now said to have been restored to its “on-screen condition.” Propstore Auction chief operating officer Brandon Alinger revealed that the dress was originally thought to be discarded, but was found in a very poor state. Thankfully, after months of “painstaking work” the dress was restored to its former glory and is now befitting of a princess.

“Princess Leia's (Carrie Fisher) original screen-matched ceremonial dress conceived by legendary costume designer John Mollo for George Lucas' Star Wars: A New Hope," reads the Propstore Auction listing. It continues: “The regal costume is symbolic of the princess' royal lineage and commanding presence. Like Leia's hooded dress from the film, the ceremonial gown was again crafted completely in white fabric.”

At the time of writing, there has been one bid of $750,000 with the auction concluding between 29 to the 30 of June 2023.

In related news from a galaxy far, far away, The Mandalorian star Pedro Pascal supports Bo-Katan, played by Katee Sackhoff, taking over as the series lead. Oh and Star Wars legend Mark Hamill, who plays Luke Skywalker, says that he is now done with the franchise.
