The Boys star Erin Moriarty quits social media citing horrifying bullying

The Boys star Erin Moriarty has quit social media citing horrifying bullying as the reason behind the decision.

After a barrage of online harassment and false claims of plastic surgery, The Boys actress Erin Moriarty has announced she will be quitting social media for the foreseeable future.

Although the internet can be an incredible place, it can be equally as terrible and that is the case for The Boys actress Erin Moriarty who has been the victim of online abuse after starring in the hit show. Despite even the show’s creator telling misogynistic fans to “eat a back of d**ks”, it is yet to stop the harassment and even American journalist Megyn Kelly has reportedly joined in on the onslaught.

On an episode of The Megyn Kelly Show podcast that aired earlier this month, Kelly used Moriarty as an example of young people who turn to plastic surgery.

The actress is best known for her role in The Boys.

“More and more young women are doing this,” Kelly said. “It’s not about an objection to plastic surgery, it’s about an obsession with turning yourself into this fake version of yourself… I find it like a sign of mental illness. I really want to get in the heads of these young girls and say, ‘Please don’t do this.'”

As a result, the actress who plays Starlight in The Boys took to Instagram to defend herself as well as taking the time to reveal the end of her social media presence.

“This is something I truly never anticipated writing,” read the statement. “We’re all subject to levels of bullying throughout our lives but I am horrified, and I felt that I deserved to take a second to address these things… To receive a message about a disgustingly false, counterproductive to the degree of being ironically misogynistic video of Megyn Kelly commenting on the manner — to learn the widespread nature of this has left me horrified.”

“Megyn used a photo taken ‘a year ago’ according to her, that had in actuality been taken about a decade ago before I was of LEGAL DRINKING AGE (I’m about to turn 30) as an example (maybe do some research that would take 30 seconds).”

Moriarty went on to say she is “horrified” by the accusations that have “broken” her heart and excluding the statement, her Instagram and other social media accounts are on an “extensive, if not permanent, break”.
