Twitch streamer Asmongold doubles down on the argument that “ugly” and “fat” content creators don’t get viewers.
Recently, popular streamer Asmongold found himself in hot water following his comments in regard to his belief that ugly and/or fat people won’t be successful in the world of content creation.
Asmongold, who has 3.4 million followers on Twitch and 1.85 million subscribers on YouTube, is perhaps most known for streaming the Activision Blizzard MMORPG, World of Warcraft. However, he also likes to dabble in reaction videos with his audience.
During a recent stream and discussing what it takes to be a successful content creator, Asmongold said: “Well here’s the thing right, you wanna know a really really uncomfortable sh**ty truth? Is that if you’re ugly, people won’t like you … So if you’re really fat and really ugly, it doesn’t matter how funny you are, people just aren’t gonna like you … That’s it.”

Naturally, whether you believe the words of Asmongold during his Twitch stream to be true or not, the streamer has faced a lot of backlash and despite his controversial comments, he has doubled down on his belief that fat and/or ugly people will struggle to succeed in the industry.
As reported by Dexerto, in a follow-up video on his YouTube channel, Asmongold did not shy away from his controversial comments and instead stuck to his guns.
“I think that it’s a benchmark,” Asmon explained. “So, for example, if there’s something wrong with your face, then it’s a big issue. People don’t wanna look at somebody who has something wrong with their f*****’ face.”
He continued: “But I would say, in general, if you look at the majority of people that are popular streamers, they are at least average to above-average attractiveness. I’m not talking about myself, okay? I’m saying the other people, the average. That’s just how it is.”

“There are a lot of people out there who don’t understand statistics,” he concludes. “It’s sad, but let’s be real — the reason people take a comment like this and then turn it around and personally insult me is because they took that comment personally. So don’t get mad at me, get mad at a mirror.”
While it's easy to feel anger about Asmongold’s comments, and despite not agreeing with most of what he had to say, it seems that his views are a reflection of society and social media itself, and I’m sure many of us will know, social media especially can be a great platform, but it can equally be a cruel place too.
