We're really starting to see just what Unreal Engine 5 is capable of now, and the results are continually defying every expectation I had.
There are some seriously exciting new games coming up that are being developed in Unreal Engine 5. There are gorgeous new open-world experiences, and stunning horrors guaranteed to cause you no end of sleepless nights.

Macabre is definitely one of the most promising looking Unreal Engine 5 projects I've laid my eyes on. Developed and published by Weforge Studio, it's a stealth extraction horror that looks to me like a striking blend of BioShock and Stranger Things.

According to the game's Steam synopsis, Macabre will see you and your friends "traverse infinite timelines, including those of other players, within an unstable time rift. Upgrade your gear and face interdimensional terrors to survive a fate worse than death. Will you escape the Rift or become its next eternal prisoner?"
Macabre promises to offer the experience of a single-player horror adventure, but with friends. Players will slowly unravel a central mystery while exploring "haunting" locations, where you'll need to complete puzzles and avoid horrifying monsters.
It's true that multiplayer horror is famously tricky to pull off, but Macabre looks like it could be offering us something genuinely new.
"The fear of the unknown is what makes for a truly terrifying experience," writes Weforge. "In Macabre, everything from maps to objectives and puzzles are entirely randomised. To make matters worse, your actions will directly impact the monster's behaviour, making them even more unpredictable. So every time you play, you'll never know what unique set of challenges await."

Macabre is currently down as "coming soon" on Steam, which hopefully means we'll discover more about this promising new horror in 2024. For now, I'd say this is definitely one for you to keep an eye on.
