Unreal Engine 5 RPG is GTA meets The Witcher, promises you can 'do anything you want'

From the original creators of Eve Online comes an MMORPG which promises players the chance to “do anything you want”.

First announced earlier this year, Pax Dei by developers Mainframe Industries is a “social sandbox MMO” inspired by the legends of the medieval era. “Here, myths are real, ghosts exist, and magic is unquestioned,” the official Steam synopsis reads. “Join thousands of players as you explore the land, build your home, forge your reputation, and craft your own stories. What world will you make?”

Set in the fictional Heartlands, you will make a home on a perfect plot of land within a village protected by the grace of the Divine. This will be your safe harbour where you and your clan can grow and prosper. However, this isn’t your standard MMO village as Pax Dei will not feature any NPCs and instead, each settlement will be made and inhabited by other players.

To sum it up, Pax Dei allows you to do whatever you want. Whether that is go out and fight monsters, give or receive quests from other players or even specialise in a particular craft so others players can come to you for certain wares. If you are feeling up to taking on beasts, you can go raiding after getting to grips with the multiple weapon systems in the game. Additionally, there is a magic system but details on that are scarce.

“Everything in this world is produced by the players' hands and skills,” the synopsis continues. “Your village needs clothes, walls, food, flowers, and prayers. Your Clan, weapons, and armour. Others require tools, materials, or mysterious reagents. It’s easy to find your place and play your part in this breathing world.”

In an effort to bring together the gaming community, Pax Dei is the MMO we have all been waiting for. With every decision making a difference - whether that is picking a flower or taking down a beast that has been troubling settlements - every player is important in order to survive and thrive.

There's no planned launch window available at the time of writing, but devs have expressed that they hope to launch alpha testing soon.
