Warner Bros. Apparently Scrapping All Superman Projects In Favour Of Henry Cavill One

Warner Bros. Apparently Scrapping All Superman Projects In Favour Of Henry Cavill One

It's been rumoured that Warner Bros. are going to be focusing solely on one new Superman movie, starring Henry Cavill.

Last week, it was announced that Warner Bros. are having a pretty huge company shake-up, due to the resignation of its chairman, Toby Emmerich. Emmerich became president and chief content officer of the company in 2017, and had served as chairman since 2018 (thanks, Wikipedia), which basically means that for about the last four years, he’d had oversight of the studio’s entire theatrical production.

Following the recent merger of Warner Bros. with Discovery, CEO David Zaslav is taking the reins, and is apparently pushing forward with what sounds like a massive reshaping of the studio. As The Wrap reports, Warner Bros. is being split into three different divisions, Warner Bros. and New Line, DC Entertainment, and Warner Animation Group - all of which will report directly to Zaslav, who has some big plans.

Before we get into it, take a look at this Superman-inspired game below, which well and truly puts the infamous Superman 64 to shame.

As reported by Superman Homepage, The Wrap’s DC insider has apparently claimed that Zaslav has instructed his team to “scratch every Superman project in development and start fresh with [Henry] Cavill.” That’s for a new movie, by the way - by the sounds of it, there’s currently been no greater plan detailed other than just getting Cavill at the centre of it all. Which, to be fair, is definitely exciting in of itself.

Last year, we found out that Ta-Nehisi Coates had been hired to write a script for a Superman reboot, with J.J. Abrams producing. Furthermore, it was rumoured that Warner Bros. were looking for a Black director for the movie, as well as a Black actor to take over the role of Superman himself. However, if these new rumours surrounding Zaslav’s plans are true, it suggests that this reboot could have been totally scrapped, which would be a huge shame.

Superman Homepage notes that the plans would be unlikely to put a stop to the Superman & Lois series, as it recently got renewed for a third season, but we’ll have to wait and see. As of right now, all of this is unofficial information, anyway, so take it with a pinch of salt.
