Warzone 2 players livid over new 'pay-to-win' skin

It’s no secret that Modern Warfare II is a colossal success. In fact, its release officially marked the most successful Call of Duty launch of all time. That’s something to rave about. Since then, MWII has kicked off its first season which coincided with the release of Warzone 2.0. Unfortunately, Warzone 2.0 hasn’t had quite the same rapturous reception.

Don’t get me wrong. There’s a lot of love for Warzone 2.0 - particularly the new proximity chat feature - but it’s not all sunshine and rainbows. Some fans are actually paying to avoid the underwhelming Escape From Tarkov inspired DMZ mode. Plus there’s the fact that many players are still mourning the loss of the original Warzone which is a shell of its former self. The latest controversy to plague the battle royale though includes a pay-to-win skin - one which players are calling, prepare yourselves, Roze 2.0.

As reported by GamesRadar, fans really aren’t happy when it comes to a new skin in the Los Angeles Thieves pack with many calling it Roze 2.0. You may remember, Roze first appeared in season five of Modern Warfare. The all-black skin was a top-tier battle pass reward and being all black, it allowed the wearer to remain hidden in darker areas - something that proved to be hugely unpopular with the CoD community.

Well, a new skin seems to have much the same effect. As infuriated as fans are, it’s also the best-selling CoD skin right now on Steam as players rush to take advantage of its perk. Thanks to Warzone 2.0’s improved lighting model and desert setting, the skin is admittedly less effective than the original Roze. There aren’t that many shadowy areas this time around, but it certainly still provides an advantage in the areas that do fit the bill.

As Reddit user OtsoZuria pointed out, “Put any dark skin like that, immobile, in a cave or any dark spot and it will have the same effect Roze Skin had. I mostly play DMZ solo, I used the base Kortac Mil-Sim a lot, and I avoided a few fights with squads by lying down and not moving, and it always worked, even when they looked in my direction.” Regardless of improved lighting, don’t underestimate this skin.
