And there’s a snapshot into the campaign.

Halo Infinite has been shown off in Xbox's E3 2021 presentation, and we're loving what we're seeing, with an epic free-to-play multiplayer mode.

We were spoiled with a cutscene from the campaign, which saw Master Chief leap and lunge through space, bouncing from the wreckage of ship to ship. Then, he discovered that Cortana's deletion hadn't gone ahead, as "something" threw a wrench in the works. It's all very cryptic at this point, but the visuals are pulling out all of the stops here, with an atmospheric lighting system illuminating the drama between the two characters and drawing the eye to the detail on Master Chief's suit. Even the open world elements are getting some serious love, with populous forests, moody clouds, and of course, the imposing ring stretching out into the sky. 343 Industries has confirmed that the game will achieve 120 FPS on Xbox Series X in multiplayer, and is coming alongside the campaign "this holiday."

Take a look at the snippet of footage of multiplayer Halo Infinite matches here.

"With Halo, our goal has always been to bring players together," said game director Joseph Staten. And pit them against each other and see them scrap it out to victory. That's also a major part of the multiplayer, and it's turning heads for its similarities to Halo: Combat Evolved. There are already a handful of skins for Master Chief (obviously flexing your fashion choices is the most important part of the matches), but there appears to be a tonne of opportunities to turn the tide in battle.

Some sort of throwable gear lets a team see the outlines of players through a wall in order to strategise and surprise them. With the grappling hook, one player snags an enemy vehicle and then hijacks it, taking it for their own. Then, a different player shoots an enemy and then grapples their weapon to catch it and bring it into their arsenal. Very stylish indeed. Halo Infinite is coming to PC, Xbox Series X and Xbox Series S later this year.
