Xbox's Fable reboot is bringing in a new developer

Xbox's Fable reboot is bringing in a new developer

Playground Games are drafting in Eidos Montreal to help assist with the development of the Fable reboot.

It’s been two years since it was revealed that a Fable reboot was in development. The problem is, we haven’t heard a lot since Playground Games dropped the shiny reveal trailer. All we know is that Fable IV will release on Xbox Series X/S and Microsoft Windows at .. some point. No release window has yet been provided.

The good news is that we have some confirmation that Fable IV still exists. At September’s PAX West, Microsoft Studios’ Matt Booty mentioned that he was “excited for when [Playground Games] get to show” fans more of the title. By the sounds of it though, Fable IV is still early in its development as a new studio is being drafted in to help.

Xbox users edge ever closer to getting their hands on Starfield. Check out some gameplay below.

According to Bloomberg’s Jason Schreier, Eidos Montreal is now assisting Playground Games on the project. Given what Booty previously said, it doesn’t sound as if Fable IV is in a bad state - more so that production is just quite slow. Eidos Montreal has several impressive credits to its name including the Deus Ex series, 2018’s Shadow of the Tomb Raider, and Marvel’s Guardians of the Galaxy, so it should be good news for the Fable reboot.

You may recall that Eidos Montreal was purchased by The Embracer Group earlier this year as part of a $300 million deal that also included Crystal Dynamics and Square Enix Montreal. Since then, Square Enix Montreal was renamed Onoma but Schreier further revealed that Onoma was being shut down. Staff were informed just a few days ago, with many of them reportedly being moved over to Eidos Montreal.

This new influx of staff at Eidos Montreal could explain the sudden availability the studio has to assist on the production of Fable IV. Perhaps this time next year, we’ll have some solid updates. We can only hope.
