You can turn on PS5 without an earth-shattering BEEP waking everyone up

It's possible to turn the PlayStation 5 on without it making a a very loud beep. Here's how.

We’ve all done the late night PlayStation 5 sneak. Whether it’s because you can’t sleep or you just cannot rest until you’ve completed one more chapter of God of War Ragnarök, sometimes the PS5 summons us and we must answer its call.

The only problem is, turning the PS5 on is hardly stealth-friendly. That BEEP can wake up everyone - your parents, your housemates, your significant other … the list goes on. I was today years old though when I discovered that you can actually turn your console on without said BEEP and here I am imparting this very important knowledge on you all. You’re welcome.

PlayStation 5 exclusive Horizon Forbidden West: Burning Shores will release on 19 April. Take a look at the trailer below.

The discovery was made by Reddit user itshonestwork who wrote, “Saw a tweet joking about how wives can hear the PS5 power up beep from an ocean away. The implications of that aside, it seems everyone replying was unaware of how to start it without it beeping.” So here is the secret formula. Itshonestwork said, “Use the PS Remote Play app on your phone, and connect over cellular data with WiFi turned off. Once it’s booted, you can close the app and power up your controller and TV.”

There you have it. I will add though, the PS5 needs to be in rest mode for this to work. Personally, I always power mine down so I’m going to have to keep on dealing with the earth-shattering BEEP. You would think that with all its bells and whistles, the PS5 would have an option that allows you to disable it by now.

If you’re looking to get your hands on a PS5, PlayStation boss Jim Ryan has confirmed that the PS5 shortage is officially over so it shouldn’t be the impossible task it once was.
