Hero Resident Evil Umbrella Edition review: a noble chair for the survival horror mastermind

The Hero Resident Evil Umbrella Edition is the perfect chair for survival horror masterminds, here's our review

Whether we work in an office or at home, being comfortable is of the utmost importance. I’ve often been told in life that buying a quality bed mattress is vital, not only for comfort but for your general physical health. After all, suffering with a bad back is no fun. With that in mind, having tested the Hero gaming chair from Noblechairs, I will forever say the same when it comes to keeping our backsides comfy during working hours.

It’s perhaps worth adding some context to my personal work-from-home situation. I’m disabled and suffer from constant chronic pain in both of my hip joints due to severe arthritic damage. The physical pain extends beyond my hips as it also works its way up my back and down my legs. Previously, I had used a low-budget gaming chair to work and play my video games, but much like a cheap mattress, it wasn't the most comfortable product.

Thankfully, however, that changed when I was provided with the Hero gaming chair. Oh, and I forgot to mention that this chair just so happens to be inspired and officially licensed by my favourite video game series of all time, Resident Evil. Much like the Syber Saffron gaming chair, to say that this chair is comfortable would be an understatement. It’s hard to put into words just how comfy it is, but the second you place your bum in it, you’ll instantly know that this is one of the most plush gaming or office chairs that you’ve ever sat on.

The Hero Resident Evil Umbrella Edition has cold foam upholstery that acts like memory foam resulting in long-lasting comfort. Put it this way, thanks to this chair, I can work a full day with far less pain than I had before. Don’t get me wrong, the physical pain is still intense, but it’s far more manageable due to this chair which is worth its weight in gold.

Initially, with this chair being primarily white on the front, I was concerned that marks would easily show on its surface. I’m a clean person, so being grubby is never an issue. However, when Pippin - my Cockapoo - jumps on the chair to greet me with his muddy paws after a walk, I suspected it might pose some issues. Thankfully, the PU (polyurethane) leather material can be easily cleaned with a quick wipe of a damp cloth.

The Hero gaming chair also features “4D armrests” which can be adjusted in multiple directions, whether it’s the height being increased or decreased, being pushed out wider or made narrower, or setting them on an angle. The base of the chair can also increase and decrease so that the back can be titled back or forward, thanks to its adjustable lumbar support system. It doesn't matter your size, the Hero gaming chair can be adjusted to just about every need. If there was one negative, I would say that the armrests could do with a little more padding. The reason is that when wearing a T-shirt, after a few hours of use, the rubbing irritates my sensitive skin. As a result, I purchased some office chair cushions which eradicated that problem, so that’s perhaps worth keeping in mind.

The Hero Resident Evil Umbrella Edition is also built to last, and so it should with its current price of £439.95. Not only does it feature tough and easy-to-clean PU leather, but its aluminium base is said to support up to 330lbs which not only ensures stability when sat in the chair, but it's also durable. What’s more, the chair is relatively simple to assemble and should take you no more than 30 minutes. That being said, I would advise bringing in a helping hand to place the back support if you can. Furthermore, the wheels on the chair make it easy to move about and despite having a wooden floor, this chair is yet to leave any marks.

In terms of artistic design, this chair is every bit as stylish as it is comfy. The white and black leather is a perfect colour combination and the iconic Umbrella Corporation logo on the front and back seals the deal for any Resident Evil fan. The Hero Resident Evil Umbrella Edition is the perfect chair for any would-be mastermind of Capcom’s fictional pharmaceutical corporation. Resident Evil fan or not, everyone who has entered my house has commented on how snazzy this chair looks and that’s before I prompted them to check out how comfy it is.

I said at the beginning of this review that buying a quality chair is as important as buying a quality mattress, especially if you work at home. The price of just under £440 might seem quite steep on first impression, but let me tell you, if you do decide to purchase this chair (or any of the other popular video game designs from Noblechairs), you will not be disappointed. Whether you work from home or play games in your spare time, the Hero Resident Evil Umbrella Edition could be the best investment that you make today.
