So you’re a Fallout fan having played all the games and now you’re wondering what to play next. You’re likely looking for another RPG, perhaps it will have some post-apocalyptic elements, plus it’ll likely feature some action-packed missions.
The Fallout franchise won’t see another instalment for a while yet fans are desperate for something new
If you have Xbox Game Pass, there are a few free games that can fill that Fallout-shaped hole until the TV show starts. These games range from sci-fi epics to zombie wastelands. Here are five games to play now you’ve finished Fallout.
DayZ
If you want a multiplayer experience you could make a start by checking out DayZ, an open-world survival game that asks you to achieve one thing - “survive by any means necessary.” It’s a brutal sandbox game where you’ll be scavenging for items and weapons on a server filled with 60 people all trying to live another day. There’s plenty of PvP action if you want it, but in a world of zombies you’ll have to worry about the undead hunting you down as well.
No Man’s Sky
This survival game takes you to space and drops you into a universe full of unique planets and aliens. No Man’s Sky is as deep as you want it to be, with players either aiming to travel to the centre of the universe and follow the loose story or simply head out into the stars and find cool places to set up bases, trade with aliens or explore with friends in a co-op adventure. There is so much to see and do across No Man’s Sky that you’ll be here for hundreds of hours scanning items, harvesting resources, and upgrading equipment.
Rage 2
Created and developed by Bethesda, Rage 2 is an action first-person shooter played in an apocalyptic open-world featuring brilliant vehicle combat as well as some cool weaponry. With a few light RPG mechanics you’ll play as Walker, the last ranger of Vineland and explore a vast world filled with dangerous mercenaries and rogues. Walker can wield a vast armoury of weapons and utilise skills to boost the guns' potential creating an anarchic action game that will have you manically grinning at the constant destruction.
Wasteland 3
A bit of a different recommendation here, but one that shares a lot with Fallout due to its apocalyptic scenario, Fallout started as this type of game. Wasteland 3 isn’t an action game, it’s a tactical RPG that features turn-based combat. Played from an isometric perspective, you look down onto the battlefield and guide your squad through each map taking out enemies and gathering items. It’s filled with dark humour and each combat scenario feels satisfying. A bit of a different playing experience but one that deserves a playthrough.
Starfield
Bethesda’s latest title, Starfield, is the closest you’re going to get to Fallout in space. Yep, we’ve got another sci-fi RPG here, but one that is heavily influenced by Fallout and Elder Scrolls: Skyrim. Essentially you’re looking at a very similar structure - the same kinds of conversations and quests - though Starfield’s gunplay is significantly improved with some great guns and tight combat. In places, it’s a beautiful sight, and it carries plenty of Bethesda charm. Starfield is likely your safest bet when it comes to filling that Fallout-shaped hole in your life.
