For 20 years, the Call of Duty franchise has been a leader of the first-person shooter genre with no signs of slowing down. Well, that is perhaps until the arrival of Call of Duty: Modern Warfare III.
Back when the first Call of Duty arrived in 2003, it was a much simpler time. The first three games in the series were set during WWII, so that meant no fancy weapons, gadgets or wall-running. It really was a case of shooting anything that moves, and it was certainly a lot of fun. It was also a time when microtransactions were pretty much non-existent, other than expansions or the odd map pack that we may have wanted to purchase. Ah, the good old days.

Sadly, as much as modern gaming can be a great thing, it’s unlikely that those days will return, especially when it relates to Call of Duty. Thankfully, however, a devoted fan, namely TeaserPlay has taken matters into their own hands by remaking Call of Duty 2 (arguably the series best WWII game) powered by Unreal Engine 5. For the record, developed by Infinity Ward, the original Call of Duty 2 was released in 2005 for PC and Xbox 360.

The Call of Duty 2 Unreal Engine 5 remake looks stunning and gives us a glimpse of what an upcoming game set during this era could look like, should publisher Activision fancy taking us back to where it all began. Sadly the concept trailer features no combat gameplay, but it does look very snazzy and does feature the epic opening of the campaign during the D-Day beach landing. Being powered by Unreal Engine 5, it also takes advantage of Lumen, Nanite and Ray Tracing Reflection.
If you want to play the real game, Call of Duty 2 is available on PC and is backwards compatible with Xbox Series X|S and Xbox One. As for the present-day series, Call of Duty: Modern Warfare III releases tomorrow on PC, PlayStation and Xbox.
