Assassin's Creed Finally Goes To Japan In Gorgeous Unreal Engine Trailer

For the longest time, Assassin's Creed fans have desperately wanted to see the series tackle feudal Japan.

Thanks to the Animus, our modern day Assassin's Creed heroes (as seen in the really boring sections of the games that you wish you could skip) have explored some of the most fascinating periods of human history, from ancient Greece to the American revolution.

Unfortunately, Japan has yet to materialise. Quite how we ended up with Asgard and several of the other mystical realms of Norse mythology before we ever got feudal Japan is beyond me, but there it is.

Of course those really wanting an exciting historical adventure with none of the weird modern-day guff can simply play the PlayStation-exclusive Ghost Of Tsushima to scratch that itch. Still, we can't help but wonder what a Ubisoft-developed Assassin's Creed set during this period would look like.

Fortunately we no longer need to imagine too hard: YouTuber TeaserPlay has put together a truly stunning concept video in Unreal Engine 5 that shows us just how cool an Assassin's Creed game set in Japan would be.

As awesome as this looks, a Japanese Assassin's Creed may remain nothing more than a dream for the foreseeable. Reports from earlier this year suggest that at least one Assassin's Creed game currently in development is set in Baghdad. However, both Bloomberg and Eurogamer have claimed this is a smaller, standalone adventure which will return the franchise to its stealth-action roots, and not the next mainline entry in the series.

Ubisoft confirmed last month it will be "unveiling the future of Assassin's Creed" during a special livestream event currently scheduled for September. It's not entirely clear what this future will be, but we can probably assume the next game is going to be officially revealed. Just don't get your hopes up for Japan.
