If you've yet to discover the unique delights of Assassin's Creed Valhalla for yourself, Ubisoft has a little Christmas present for you: the 2020 open-world action-RPG is free to download and check out on all platforms, but only for a limited time.
Assassin's Creed Valhalla is the most recent entry in Ubisoft's long-running stealth-action series. Not that Assassin's Creed is a stealth-action series anymore, mind you. It hasn't been for a long time!
Valhalla is more of an open-world RPG in the vein of The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt, putting players into the role of leader of a Viking clan and asking them to forge alliances, build a settlement, and occasionally bust out some sweet parkour moves.
Assassin's Creed Valhalla is free to download and play all weekend. You can get it installed right now and enjoy everything the game has to offer up until 19 December. As is always the case with these Ubisoft trials, your progress will be carried over to the full game if you choose to purchase it once the demo period ends.

The free weekend is available on PlayStation 5, PlayStation 4, Xbox One, Xbox Series X/S, and PC. For more details on how to get it installed on your platform of choice, head to Ubisoft's website and follow the instructions. Or, you know, figure it out for yourself.
While Assassin's Creed Valhalla is far from the traditional Assassin's Creed experience, there's definitely plenty of fun to be had. The massive open world - a recreation of England in 872 AD - is a particular highlight. The sidequests are also genuinely fantastic, mostly very silly, and some of the most fun I've ever had in an AC game. If you've never checked it out, you'll have a blast this weekend.
