Fans can't get enough of classic Call of Duty!

Despite being a series that is two decades old, the Call of Duty franchise continues to be one of the most popular of all time, especially when it comes to Xbox.

Recently, classic Call of Duty games have benefited from a massive spike in online player numbers thanks to an update that improves matchmaking so much that you should be able to find a match within seconds. Though, the plague of hackers and cheaters is still an ongoing issue.

So it really should come as no surprise that some of those classic Call of Duty games have also seen a surge in sales. I admit, I too have splashed into picking up a couple of the classic games with Black Ops and Black Ops II, as they are not only in a digital sale, but they were the only two classic CoD games I didn't own on Xbox.

At the time of writing, Call of Duty: Black Ops II (2012) is in the top 50 of digital sales on the Xbox Marketplace in the US and UK, and it’s not alone, because it is also joined by Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2 (2009). To put things into perspective, both games are beating the likes of Halo: The Master Chief Collection, Assassin’s Creed Valhalla, Skyrim, Hogwarts Legacy and more.

Cheaters aside, it’s great that there is still loads of love for the classics, because let’s be honest, hackers and cheaters aside, the classics are often better multiplayer games than recent entries. Though hackers and cheaters are sadly still an issue in newer games too.

If you fancy picking up some of the classic Call of Duty games on Xbox while still on sale, you have just under two weeks to claim them at a discount. So get in there fast, and get in those killstreaks, soldier.

In more recent Call of Duty news, this year it’s rumoured that the next entry will be the Modern Warfare III reboot and it’s been all but confirmed that progress and DLC will carry over from the Modern Warfare II (2022). If true, progressing carrying over into a sequel will be a first for the series.

At this time, Activision has not officially announced Call of Duty: Modern Warfare III (2023), but hopefully, all will be revealed in the coming weeks.
