Whether some of us like to admit it or not, Call of Duty isn't going away anytime soon and as fans of the series, we couldn't be happier.
Since its inception in 2003 on PC, the Call of Duty series has been the go-to military shooter for so many, offering high-octane single-player campaigns as well as a robust multiplayer offering.

Back in 2009's Call of Duty: World at War, zombies were first introduced to the franchise. In the wave-based mode, a team of co-op players would work together in order to progress through its campaign, fighting off hordes of zombies that would increase in numbers as the game progressed.

Keeping up with annual release traditions, this year we’ll have another Call of Duty entry with Modern Warfare III, the third entry in the rebooted series which began with Modern Warfare in 2019.In a tweet shared by the Twitter fan account CharlieIntel, a Battlenet page confirmed that Infinity Ward, Treyarch, Beenox, Raven, High Moon and demonware are all assisting Sledgehammer Games with the development of Modern Warfare III. My initial thoughts are that MWIII could have too many cooks in the kitchen, but there might be a good reason why all hands are on deck.
In previous Call of Duty entries, the single-player campaign, traditional multiplayer modes, and Zombies have all been a part of the main game that you can purchase, whereas the battle royale Warzone is free-to-play. However, if Zombies were to become free-to-play, could this leave the door open for the same to happen with its traditional multiplayer? After all, this wouldn't be too dissimilar to Halo Infinite, which has free-to-play multiplayer but its story campaign is paywalled. On Reddit, users have been speculating as to why there are so many developers working on Modern Warfare III, but if Zombies was to launch as a new free-to-play entity, it could explain why Activision have called in the troops.

To add further fuel to the speculative fire, a previous article for Insider Gaming suggested that Zombies could return this year as a free-to-play title. It’s worth keeping in mind that Zombies hasn't even been teased yet by Activision. We should always take unconfirmed rumours and speculation with a pinch of salt until proven otherwise.
Recently, Activision confirmed previous rumours that Call of Duty: Modern Warfare III will be this year's series entry and a trailer revealed that players will be returning to Verdansk in its single-player campaign.
Call of Duty: Modern Warfare III will be released on PC, PlayStation and Xbox on 10 November 2023.
