Capcom Is Teasing A Sequel Fans Have Waited Years For

Capcom have been celebrating the 10th anniversary of Dragon's Dogma, leading some fans to believe that a new game could be in the works.

A few days ago (22 May) Dragon’s Dogma celebrated its 10th anniversary, and oh boy does saying stuff like that fill me with existential dread. Sorry, but 2012 was a decade ago?! I simply refuse to believe it.

Except I’m going to have to, because it’s true, and it’s difficult to believe that in all that time, we haven’t seen a follow up to this game. Capcom’s supremely testing fantasy adventure was received really positively when it came out, as was its enhanced Dark Arisen edition, but the only other thing we’ve had as far as new content is concerned is the 2020 Netflix adaptation (which I’m not going to pretend that I’ve seen, but the reviews for it really don’t look too hot). However, things could be set to change. As reported by Screen Rant, Capcom’s celebration of the game’s anniversary has left fans hopeful that a sequel could be on the way.

Take a look at the trailer for Dragon's Dogma: Dark Arisen on the Nintendo Switch below.

Now, what does this celebration consist of, exactly? Frankly, not much. An official anniversary website was launched, which contains of an overview video (with gameplay clips, as well as scenes from the Netflix show), a timeline of the game’s releases on different platforms, and a thank you message for players.

“Thank you, Arisen, for taking up arms and braving through the impossible challenges laid ahead of you,” it reads. “We are forever grateful for your support throughout the years and hope you will join us in this momentous celebration of Dragon's Dogma!”

Was anything left on the website which remotely pointed towards a new game? Nope, absolutely nothing. But that’s not stopping the forever-hopeful fans from wondering why Capcom would go to such an effort to celebrate a single standalone title - it certainly does imply that there could be more to it.

Last year, Capcom suffered a massive leak which revealed a number of games they had in the works, one of which apparently being a new Dragon’s Dogma title. So, it wouldn’t be too surprising if something really is in development (although it’s surprising that it wasn’t revealed for the game’s anniversary, if so). We’ll just have to watch this space.
