Minecraft free download includes feature fans have waited years for

Regardless of your age, gamers all over the world have enjoyed countless hours exploring and creating worlds in Mojang’s Minecraft since 2011.

Minecraft is a survival crafting game that can be enjoyed solely or played with others, and as evidence of its continued popularity, it recently became the first video game to sell over 300 million copies. Some of the reasons for the success of Minecraft over the years can be attributed to its reliance on quality content updates and licensed DLC inspired by Jurassic Park, Star Wars and SpongeBob SquarePants to name a few. Not to mention that it’s been ported to just about every platform imaginable.

Minecraft has also seen a variety of popular spin-offs from developers such as Telltale Games as well as the recent dungeon crawler-inspired Minecraft Legends. In our review of Minecraft Legends, we said: “It’s an enjoyable, lighthearted hybrid that prioritises exploration as much as tactical battle gameplay. It’s accessible for younger audiences and RTS newbies while still being challenging at later stages in the campaign. The Minecraft Midas touch has turned another genre to gold but a few hiccups mean Legends isn’t quite a diamond.”

For years, PC gamers have been enjoying the benefit of 4K and ray tracing support in Minecraft thanks to the Bedrock Edition. However, this feature is something that console gamers have missed out on, that was until now. Well, mostly. Preview update 1.20.60.23 has gone live for Xbox Series X|S and with it comes 4K resolution support.

It’s worth keeping in mind that this latest update is only available in its preview build, and has not been released into the wild, yet. That being said, given the fact that 4K support is available in the console preview, we shouldn't be waiting much longer for its full release.

At the time of writing, the recent preview update is lacking ray tracing support on console as we’ve seen in the Minecraft Bedrock Edition on PC, but hopefully, we won't be waiting much longer for that either. The recent update also makes many bug fixes as well as quality-of-life improvements.

Minecraft is out now on PC, PlayStation, Xbox, Nintendo and compatible mobile devices.
