If you’re about to head into a long bank holiday weekend like I am, you may find yourself looking for something to play. Perhaps it’s finally time for you to tackle that backlog that’s been building up for years. If nothing is scratching the itch though, allow me to talk you through a few options.
It’s no secret that Resident Evil 4 has gone down a storm. In our review, GAMINGbible’s James wrote, “Resident Evil 4 is a brilliant action-horror game and I’ll no doubt play through it multiple times over the coming months.” If you’ve got PlayStation Plus, I’m a major fan of Tchia if you’re looking for a short, tropical island adventure. For whatever reason, gamers also really can’t get enough of Days Gone at the moment. Perhaps it’s filling a The Last of Us shaped hole in our hearts following the end of the HBO series. If none of those options are quite doing it for you, a classic Call of Duty game is proving to be very popular right now, and it’s outselling some of Xbox’s best-selling games.

As reported by GG Recon, Call of Duty Black Ops II recently skyrocketed to the top of Xbox’s sales charts. In part, this is thanks to a recent sale where the price dropped from $49.99 down to just $14.99, while the original Black Ops fell from $29.99 to $14.99. Unfortunately, this sale has now ended but if you do choose to pick up the game, lobbies should be stacked with players.

This means that Black Ops II, which is 11 years old, is proving to be more popular than MLB 2023, Modern Warfare II, NBA 2K23, and GTA V. That’s a pretty impressive feat. It’s a much-needed, albeit small, victory for the Call of Duty franchise. In recent weeks, players have been unimpressed by both MWII’s and Warzone 2.0’s lackluster updates.
In fact, Warzone 2.0 has seen a falling player count with 80% of people who took part in a recent poll admitting that they no longer play the title regularly. Ouch.
