The actor who portrayed Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2 villain Phillip Graves has teased his return in Modern Warfare 3.
Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 3 will supposedly release sometime later this year, continuing the retold story of Task Force 141. Despite Call of Duty games being primarily known for their multiplayer modes, the single player campaign of Modern Warfare (2019) and Modern Warfare 2 (2022) were highly praised for fun missions, likeable characters, and a solid story.
Now, it’s believed the villain from Modern Warfare 2, who was believed to be dead, will return for the third game.
Commander Phillip Graves was the secondary antagonist in the second game, who seemingly met their demise towards the end of the campaign when a C4 explosive was thrown inside the tank they were operating. You’d think there’s no walking away from that, but a new teaser from the actor that plays Graves suggests otherwise. Warren Kole, who plays Graves, recently posted a picture on Instagram of them in a motion capture suit with the caption “Ahem…”, with many believing him to be teasing his return as the antagonist of Modern Warfare 3.
Obviously, this should be taken with a grain of salt, as the actor could be giving a performance for an entirely new role, but with a new Call of Duty game on the horizon, it’s not impossible that he’s currently working on Modern Warfare 3.

It’d also tie in quite nicely with the marketing trends of upcoming Call of Duty games. Typically, a COD game that’s scheduled to release at the end of the year usually gets an announcement over the summer. With that in mind, it could only be a few more weeks till we get our first look at Modern Warfare 3, adding further credibility to Kole’s Instagram post theory.
Of course, only time will tell if fans are correct in their speculation, but if they are, I’m sure everyone will be dying to know how Graves survived a point-blank explosion in a confined space.
