Dark Souls 3 finally has an 'Easy Mode'

Answering the prayers of many Soulsborne fans, Dark Souls 3 finally has an unofficial easy mode.

Answering the prayers of many Soulsborne fans, Dark Souls 3 finally has an unofficial easy mode. Praise the sun!

For years, Soulsborne fans have debated the topic of an easy mode. On one hand, some feel that it will harm the integrity of FromSoftware’s vision. On the other hand, some feel why would someone be bothered that a person they don’t know is playing an easy mode. Especially if that disgruntled player is still experiencing the game as FromSoftware intended.

Well, as reported by DSOgaming, thanks to modder ‘Zethras’, they have released a new mod that brings the unofficial easy mode to Dark Souls 3. However, rather than just making the player OP or making the enemies mere peasants, this mod approaches the easier difficulty a little differently.

So, what does this unofficial easy mode bring to Lands of Cinder? In total ‘Easy Souls III’ brings three difficulties, Easy, VeryEasy and UltraEasy.

Easy increase your souls intake by 25%, lowers your damage taken by 25% and damage dealt increased by 25%. What’s more, VeryEasy and UltraEasy have percentages of 50% and 75%, respectively. Better still, all the changes that Easy Souls III brings will be carried over into each new game cycle retaining the balance as the game intended (kind of).

“All the above changes have been carried over to every NG cycle, keeping the same balance of the main game,” explains the description on Nexusmods. “Which, in other words, means that if an enemy did 100 damage with a sword strike and gave 1000 souls upon dying while dealing 200 damage and giving 2000 souls in NG+.

“If you use, say, the UltraEasy version of this mod, that same enemy will inflict 25 damage and give 1750 souls on the standard game, and will deal 50 damage with 3500 souls given upon death in NG+. The same goes for NG+2 onwards.”

While we wait for the arrival of Dark Souls 4, fans of FromSoftware might want to check out Wo Long: Fallen Dynasty, a game which we described as being “souls-like with serious bite”. What’s more, Wo Long is available to Xbox Game Pass subscribers at no extra cost.
