Warner Bros and DC Studios will be making a major change to the way that Batman will be portrayed on the small and silver screen, and honestly, this might just be the ticket for the tumultuous time that the DCU has had.
As well as the new name, the DCU has also handed over the reins to filmmaker James Gunn and producer Peter Safran to push an innovative agenda for the cinematic universe.
"DC has among the most entertaining, powerful, and iconic characters in the world and I am thrilled to have the singular and complementary talents of James and Peter joining our world-class team and overseeing the creative direction of the storied DC Universe," said Warner Bros. Discovery CEO David Zaslav at the time.

So what will be happening to the entertaining, powerful, and iconic Batman in this brave new world? Speaking earlier this week during RBC’s 2022 Global TIMT Conference, Zaslav was pleased to say that Gunn and Safran are very nearly done with the bible for DC films in the future.
“I think over the next few years, you’re going to see a lot of growth and opportunity around DC; there’s not going to be four Batmans,” said Zaslav (as per The Hollywood Reporter). “And so part of our strategy is, drive the hell out of DC, which James and Peter are going to do. I think they’ve thrilled the fans. I think they’re going to thrill you over a period of time.”

In other words, we'll likely see only Michael Keaton, Ben Affleck and Robert Pattinson play Batman for the foreseeable, lending their skills to feature films and any other smaller scale projects like shows or animated series. Keaton and Affleck will reprise their roles in The Flash, still set to be released in 2023, and the sequel to The Batman has recently gotten the green light.
