On your marks, get set...

Hello, hello, and a merry Friday to all who celebrate. I bring today the glad tidings that Dishonored Definitive Edition is free to download until 4.00pm GMT on 5th January (or use this calculator to work out when that is in your own timezone).

If you're not clued up on the stealth series but have always had a curiosity about it, imagine the worst place to live in 19th century England. That's Dunwall, the fictional city where the game is set, and it is the capital of the Empire of the Isles. As aforementioned, it is not paradise on Earth owing to the rampant corruption of government officials and the lethal plague spread by rats in the city's lower levels. Fortunately, not a lot of this touches you as you're the bodyguard to the Empress and her young daughter Emily. Nothing could go wrong when you're all the way up here, right?

Here's the trailer for the game, featuring things going wrong:

Mixing both supernatural abilities with a devastatingly inventive assassin's arsenal, Dishonored offers you the most fun you could ever have from the shadows. It's free to download and install via the Epic Games Store but the giveaway expires in the first week of the new year, so best to step to it.

The Definitive Edition offers the original game and the DLCs Void Walker Arsenal, Dunwall City Trials, The Brigmore Witches and The Knife of Dunwall. While playing The Brigmore Witches and The Knife of Dunwall isn't strictly necessary before getting into the events of Dishonored 2 and Death of the Outsider, they do give you a greater insight to the characters of Delilah and Daud respectively. Here I am, assuming that you'll carry on to the next games in the series after bagging the first one for free. It'd be so embarrassing if I was wrong.
