EA shares first look at first post-FIFA football game

EA has shared the first look at EA Sports FC, the company's successor to FIFA.

FIFA fans, the new age has arrived. EA has officially unveiled new branding for the series, which is now titled EA Sports FC, after it severed ties with FIFA back in 2022.

There were months of ‘will they, won’t they’ debates before EA and FIFA finally went their separate ways last year. If you’re not up to date with the whole saga, it was essentially pretty pricey for EA to retain the FIFA branding. I don’t necessarily think it’s a bad thing. The franchise continues to dominate sales charts, but it’s fair to say that players wouldn’t say no to injecting the series with a new lease of life - which is exactly what’s happened today.

Admittedly, all we have to go on so far is a brand new logo, but it’s a nice one - as far as simple logos go. EA did tease though that the future of EA Sports FC will be unveiled in July. Now that sounds exciting.

In a press release (via Eurogamer), brand boss Nick Wlodyka said, “EA Sports FC will be a symbol for the sport, a symbol of innovation and change, and we're energised to show our fans more about the future in July.” The release also went on to refer to the franchise as a "platform to create, innovate and grow new football experiences, connecting hundreds of millions of fans through console, mobile, online and esports products". It certainly sounds like we should be expecting more than a simple yearly release.

If you’re curious about the design choices behind the new logo, the triangle is (apparently) a key shape in the game. I don’t claim to be an expert but EA explained, “From passing techniques to set plays, the [triangle] shape has also been woven into the DNA of EA Sports football experiences for decades, from the isometric angles of our very first 8-bit experiences and the triangular polygons that make up every pixel of our most modern games, as well the iconic player indicator symbol that appears above every athlete in every match." See you back here in July for the full debrief? Yeah.
