The 'Elden Ring' Speedrun Record Is Now Under Seven Minutes

Legendary speedrunner Distortion2 has now completed Elden Ring in a record-breaking seven minutes.

Do you remember when we all thought Elden Ring would take well over 100 hours to complete? Then came the dark days: speedruns. Since its release in February, Elden Ring players have found no shortage of impressive ways to best the game. Personally, the thought of defeating Radagon with a Dance Dance Revolution mat has never crossed my mind but then again, I’m still wandering Gatefront Ruins like the lost little soul that I am.

Elden Ring’s speedrunning community is currently in a constant state of attempting to outdo one another. We were all admittedly impressed by the first successful sub 50 minute run. When that run was cut down to below 30 minutes, our respect grew. With each successively shorter run since then, all we can do is say: please, no more.

Will Smith recently found time to appear in Elden Ring, sort of. Take a look below.

The latest record has been set by Twitch streamer Distortion2 who is no stranger to setting Elden Ring speedrun records - although his latest time of six minutes and 59 seconds is a huge step up from his original 50 minute record. If somehow you’ve avoided all discussion of the increasingly cursed realm of Elden Ring speedruns and are wondering how this is possible, let me enlighten you my Tarnished friends.

Distortion2 used a technique known as ‘The Zip,’ which essentially entails travelling outside of Elden Ring’s map - prompting the game to transport you to another point. Some call that glitching to the credits, others call it a speedrun. Using the technique, Distortion2 was able to immediately zip to The Four Belfries followed by Crumbling Farum Azula. Here, he tackled Maliketh twice before zipping through Leyndell, Ashen Capital and force-spawning the Elden Beast.

“That was the most cracked run I’ve ever had in my life,” Distortion2 said, which is one way to describe it. I’ll see you all back here, let's say… in two days for the next record.
