Fortnite is getting a new open-world game mode, say dataminers

Could the Fortnite open-world mode arrive this year?

Fortnite is not only one of the most popular games on the planet, but it’s also one of the most lucrative.

Over the years the popularity of Fortnite has only increased. According to UseSignHouse.com, Fortnite made a whopping $6 billion in 2022. What’s more, data on ActivePlayer.io reveals that the free-to-play battle royale shooter garnered over 237 million players within the last 30 days.

So with masses of players requiring to be entertained on a regular basis to ensure that the microtransaction revenue keeps on flowing, it’s up to Epic Games to think of new and exciting ideas to keep players coming back. It’s why we see so many collaborations with companies and personalities outside of the Fortnite realm. For example, this week alone, we’ve seen the likes of WWE Superstars Becky Lynch and Bianca Belair as playable characters in the game.

However, it’s not just the reliance on popular characters being introduced into the world of Fortnite, because it’s vitally important that engaging players are kept entertained by new modes too.

One such potential mode is of the open world variety, that’s at least according to information provided by prominent dataminer and leaker of information, Hypex. According to the data, an open-world mode with a fantasy setting is on the way, a rumour that initially began back in 2021 as revealed during the Epic Games vs. Apple lawsuit. According to updated information, it is believed that the new mode will arrive with Chapter 5 Season 1

Obviously, it’s always important to take rumours and speculation with a pinch of salt until proven otherwise. That being said, considering that much of this data spawned from the Epic Games vs. Apple lawsuit, there is likely smoke with fire. Hopefully, Epic Games will reveal all in the coming months with Chapter 5 expected to kick off at some point by the end of this year.

Fortnite is available now for PC, PlayStation, Xbox, Nintendo Switch and mobile devices.
