‘Forza Horizon 5’ Player Banned For 8,000 Years For Offensive Livery

‘Forza Horizon 5’ Player Banned For 8,000 Years For Offensive Livery

This was their first offense, too.

A Forza Horizon 5 player has been hit with an 8,000 year ban for creating a custom livery with the face of the Supreme Leader of North Korea, Kim Jong-un, alongside the KFC logo.

If Forza Horizon 5 was a celebrity, it arrived on the red carpet, flaunting a stunning, sophisticated yet straightforward look after weeks and weeks of hype for their eventual appearance. Nothing too flashy — I’m imagining a very, very, very dark green velvet number that draws from historic trends as well as taking on inspirations from more recent influences. Yes, their appearance at the end of the year was expected, but no one counted on them looking that good and knocking the competition out of the park when they did so.

Fine. Enough metaphors. Before the game was even out, almost a million players were speeding down the roads of Mexico, and it swiftly became the highest rated release of the year. It trumped Disco Elysium: The Final Cut, The House in Fata Morgana, Tetris Effect Connected and Hades, which are all excellent games in their own right.

Plus, the fact that you can start playing from Xbox Game Pass means that Forza Horizon 5 has likely become a favoured pick for those who weren’t familiar with the games before this year. New options like your character’s voice, identity and prosthetics are ways to customise your experience of the game, though the most obvious outlet for your personality is the custom livery for your cars.

This player showed off their sense of humour with a red KFC themed livery. What’s the issue? Oh, just the silhouette of the Supreme Leader of North Korea, Kim Jong-un dressed as Colonel Sanders, the “send nukes” message and the Pirelli logo swapped for the North Korean capital Pyongyang. “So my friend just told me that he got an 8000 year ban for one of his liveries, looks like [Turn 10 Studios] doesn't like jokes or something. He never received any warning before this ban either,” complained Reddit user AllThingsRacing on the game’s subreddit.

Other players, who had made controversial custom liveries like ones that had pro-Trump, Pornhub, and anti-Biden imagery, sympathised. The majority did admit that “send nukes” was probably what tipped the enforcement team at Turn 10 Studios towards a ban. Still, an 8,000 year sanction seems much too much for a first offense. At the moment, we don’t know whether or not the friend is appealing the ban or whether the extremely lengthy ban was an error.
