Netflix is increasing its roster of nerd culture films once again as it's announced that the subscription service and production company will be taking on a Gundam film. The news comes from the NXOnNetflix Twitter account which updates fans on what future projects will be shown on the platform, and now that includes a full-length feature film about the giant robots.

It's certainly time to grab your Mobile suits, as the tweet says, as production on a Gundam film starts up, and strangely enough, this movie is only happening because of Pacific Rim. The original Pacific Rim came out back in 2013 to quite a lot of success - if you're not familiar with the film it was basically four giant robots manned by different countries fighting Kaijus which happens to be wildly entertaining. We don't talk about the 2018 follow up though, which was somehow far less well-received despite having a Gundam Unicorn Easter Egg.

See a real Gundam take its first steps in Yokohama, Japan.

Comicbook, though, reports that Legendary's handling of the first Pacific Rim film led to the deal for the studio to take on a live-action version of the famous Japanese franchise. Now it's confirmed that the film will be coming to Netflix upon release and we've got a director for the project too.

Jordan Vogt-Roberts will be the director on the live-action film of Sunrise's Gundam. You might already know his work if you've seen Kong: Skull Island or Nick Offerman's American Ham, both of which he directed. We've actually been keeping an eye on Vogt-Roberts work of late because he's also signed up to work on the Metal Gear Solid film starring Oscar Isaac, so that's two huge properties that Jordan has been given direction on in the works.

We can't imagine how the final Gundam film is going to turn out, but if it's anything like Pacific Rim's badass fight scenes with the Jaegers, we're definitely on board.
