Amazon Prime Video has shown the first trailer for its upcoming adaptation of The Wheel Of Time and it's looking pretty good. Some people think it might even rival Netflix's The Witcher series when it releases later this year.

Netflix has ruled the fantasy roost since the first season of The Witcher aired, with the second season also arriving toward the end of the year. But now, it looks like Amazon could be gearing up to steal their crown and fans of The Wheel Of Time can barely contain their excitement.

Enough waffle, check out the trailer below.

For those who aren't aware of the story, allow me to give you a brief synopsis that I absolutely haven't just had to google. The story will focus around Moiraine Damodred, being played by Rosamund Pike in the series, who is a member of a very powerful all-female magical group called the Aes Sedai.

Trouble is brewing though, and Moiraine is tasked with finding the fabled Dragon Reborn, who is the world's last chance against impending doom at the hands of the Dark One. The Sedai, alongside other travelers, set off across the world to save it, or doom it. Probably save it though if I'm hedging my bets.

The best-selling Wheel of Time books were written by fantasy author Robert Jordan and span 14 volumes in total. Three of the books were completed after Jordan's death by Brandon Sanderson. In total, the series has sold over 90 million books, so it's safe to say it'll have a loyal following of fans very excited about this project.

Season 1 of the show will air on Amazon Prime Video on November 19th with the first three episodes, then continue weekly until the sixth and final episode on December 24th. While we haven't even got to the start of season 1 yet, season 2 has apparently already been green-lit, so clearly somebody out there is confident this is going to do well.

For comparison, The Witcher season 2 will be debuting over on Netflix on December 17th, so although there's no significant crossover between the two, I wouldn't be surprised to find out a bigwig over at Amazon hadn't intentionally aligned those release windows to ride on Geralt of Rivia's coattails.
