'Assassin’s Creed Valhalla’ Has An Awesome Reference To The Lord Of The Rings

A druid and little folk - we know who that is.

Assassin's Creed Valhalla takes quite a lot of pride in having fun with its setting. From the drinking competitions to the fantastic views over England, you can see Ubisoft has had an absolute ball developing the world for you to run around and raid. As it turns out, though, Ubisoft also thought to add in some Easter Eggs throughout this version of England for your enjoyment, including a Lord of the Rings reference.

As spotted by Eurogamer, if you travel to Glowcestre (that's Gloucester to you and me), you'll discover a small village of pagans with homes covered in greenery. Although they stick out of the ground a little more than the average Hobbit hole, they're obviously a reference to the homes of the Shire.

Going into one of these homes, you can read a note on a desk which says, "One of the little folk asked me to make the door smaller, as he wants to keep unruly houseguests from his house. After the nonsense with the druid last fall, I can see his point." On top of the letter rests a ring. This video shows the reference off nicely.

If you haven't realised already, this is supposed to be about Bilbo Baggins and Gandalf. Although it's already hard for the wizard to get into a Hobbit's home, a smaller door would make it close to impossible so Bilbo's architecture request would probably do the trick.

It's an adorable reference to the characters without exactly spelling it out to you. If you weren't familiar with the Lord of the Rings universe, you'd probably think this was a completely normal letter within the game's story. According to the original Eurogamer article, Gloucester was a big influence on the development of Lord of the Rings for Tolkien so that's why the reference pops up there. We wonder if Eivor would have been a good fit for the Fellowship if they had gotten the chance to join.
