The Call of Duty: Black Ops Cold War beta received a minor update that brought some significant changes to the game.

The patch, which rolled out for PlayStation 4 players, has introduced the 6v6 VIP Escort mode to the Cartel, Crossroads, Miami, and Moscow maps. Its second alteration is to the level cap, which was previously restricted to level 16. Now, Treyarch has upped it to level 25, which will give rise to more interesting and more dynamic matchups for players who have already reached the maximum level.

Additionally, the new level cap offers new unlocks for players, like the Krig 6, AK-74u, SAM Turret, War Machine, tactical mask, gas mine, smoke grenade, tracker, and more. Lastly, Treyarch has addressed the issue with unresponsive controllers when dropping into a match, and crashes occurring after selecting Operators in the front end, and after SAM Turrets that are still dealing out damage even if they're destroyed.

Perhaps, this update has also dealt with the odd references to loot boxes in the beta, which players discovered earlier this week. While using a mouse and keyboard to play on the PlayStation 4, options for "Reserves", "Purchase Crate", and "Crate Bundle" appear in the Message of the Day box. People theorised that these were left over from a prior version of the game, and that Call of Duty: Black Ops Cold War will adopt a battle pass like Call of Duty: Modern Warfare.

However, others aren't so sure. In their eyes, the bug might have given the game away about Treyarch and Activision's plans for microtransactions. If the Reserve Cases and Reserve Crates of Black Ops 4 have returned, then the publisher will be in the bad books with the Call of Duty community. We don't know for now, but we'll keep across any news on this front.

Returning to the beta, among the numerous upgrades from the alpha is the introduction of a ping system. Mimicking the one in Apex Legends, it will highlight things like points on the map, loot, enemies, enemy Scorestreakers, and spy planes. This lets players who aren't a fan of voice chat effectively communicate with their fellow soldiers, and the game becomes a better place for everyone to play together.

Then, the second beta is for PC and Xbox One pre-order players as well as PlayStation 4 players, and is scheduled for October 15th to 16th. Finally, the Black Ops Cold War beta becomes available for all players on all platforms from October 17th to 19th.
