'Cyberpunk 2077' Has Been Delayed, CD Projekt RED Confirms

Good lord.

Cyberpunk 2077 has joined the increasingly massive pile of 2020 video games that are being hit with delays. CD Projekt RED has confirmed that its much-anticpated open world sci-fi RPG has been pushed back to September 17th. The original release date, announced at E3 2019, was April 16th.

The developer broke the news over on Twitter, revealing that while the game is complete and playable, there's still "work to be done." CD Projekt RED goes on to explain that much of this is to do with the size of the world, which according to everything we've heard so far, is going to be truly massive.

Take a look at the statement in full for yourself below.

"We are currently at a stage where the game is complete and playable," CD Projekt explained. "But there's still work to be done. Night City is massive - full of stories, content and places to visit, but due to the sheer scale and complexity of it all, we need more time to finish playtesting, fixing and polishing.

"We want Cyberpunk 2077 to be our crowning achievement for this generation and postponing launch will give us the precious months we need to make the game perfect. Expect more regular updates on progress as we get closer to the new release date. We're really looking forward to seeing you in Night City, thank you cor your ongoing support!"

Cyberpunk 2077 is far from the only 2020 release to have been delayed recently, as I mentioned. Marvel's Avengers and Final Fantasy VII remake were both pushed back, Square Enix announced recently. Meanwhile, Ubisoft has also delayed Watch Dogs Legion and Gods Of Monsters. Oh, and Naughty Dog pushed The Last Of Us Part II back by a little bit too.

As far as I can see, I'm fairly certain that Cyberpunk 2077's delay now means that every major 2020 release (that we know about so far) has been delayed at least once. Still, I'm sure all these games will benefit from the extra polish and be worth the wait, right?
