Dead By Daylight is getting a massive graphical overhaul, it's been confirmed. Developer Behaviour Interactive already revealed that it plans to release the asymmetric survival horror on Xbox Series X and PlayStation 5, which means users can expect to see a substantial visual overhaul - and soon.

The incoming updates will be available on all platforms, but it's those of us on PCs and next-gen consoles (when released) that will really see the benefits of all the changes.

"The ultimate goal is to improve the immersion tenfold, making the environments as realistic as a scary, disturbing nightmare", Behaviour said in a press release. "The lighting and VFX will be vastly upgraded, as well as the modeling, textures, and animations. More props will be added to the maps, and proper functions will be given to rooms to make them more identifiable."

Dead by Daylight players can expect to see the first fruits of this major update as early as next week. An incoming patch for the game is set to include enhanced versions of various assets like generators and lockers. More will be added every six weeks, with Behaviour promising to release "tens of thousands" of enhanced assets over the next few months.

The developer also revealed that Dead By Daylight will soon feature cross-platform progression. This comes just months after the inclusion of the cross-play and cross-friends functionality that was introduced earlier this summer. With all these new features, an impending next-gen launch, and the creeping dark that comes as autumn falls, this could be the perfect time to finally get into Dead By Daylight if you've never checked it out.

In a recent update that's definitely worth a look. Behaviour teamed up with Konami to include Silent Hill's hulking monster Pyramid Head as one of the game's killers. The pointy-headed fiend joins an impressive lineup of horror icons, including Michael Myers, Freddy Krueger, Leatherface, and even the Demogorgon from Stranger Things.

With next-gen plans well underway, all that's left to do is wonder what other classic horrors Behaviour might be waiting to unleash in Dead By Daylight. While not strictly horror-related, I think it'd be pretty cool to see the likes of Venom or Carnage from Spider-Man chasing players across maps. Maybe a Resident Evil crossover featuring Nemesis, too. Dead By Daylight clearly isn't going away anytime soon, so hopefully these dreams will come true one day soon.
