The Fast & Furious cinematic universe (because that's a thing now) is about to expand into the world of video games. Fast & Furious Crossroads is a brand new game from Project CARS creator Slightly Mad Studios. It's described as a "team-based vehicular-heist action game", complete with a single-player campaign and multiplayer mode.

Longtime fans of the franchise will no doubt be delighted to hear that, for an extra layer of authenticity, some of the biggest stars of the movie franchise are set to reprise their roles. Vin Diesel, Michelle Rodriguez and Tyrese Gibson, are all returning as Dom, Letty, and Roman respectively in an original story that'll likely involve being both fast and furious. Often at the same time.

Check out the reveal trailer from The Game Awards below.

Fast & Furious Crossroads is expected to hit PC, PS4, and Xbox One in May 2020. That's the same month Fast & Furious 9 speeds into cinemas, so I imagine there'll be some kind of crossover between the two. At this stage though, it's unclear where exactly the game falls into the rich tapestry that is the Fast & Furious timeline. We'll just have to wait and see.

Personally, I do very much hope that Crossroads is a direct tie-in to the upcoming film. It's been a while since we've had a genuinely good movie tie-in released for consoles. Historically speaking, movie tie-ins do tend to be a bit naff, which is probably why we don't see much of 'em anymore. But every now and again, we end up with a Spider-Man 2 or an X-Men Origins: Wolverine.

Given Slightly Mad Studios have a solid track record of making great racing games, I'm inclined to believe that Crossroads might actually be pretty good. It certainly can't be any worse than the last Fast & Furious game we got. If you didn't play 2013's Showdown, you have been making positive life decisions and I salute you. Just go and watch some of it in action on YouTube and you'll see what I mean.

There were plenty of big announcements elsewhere during The Game Awards. Sekiro: Shadows Die Twice took home the coveted Game Of The Year Award, for instance. Elsewhere, we got a reveal trailer for a new series of The Wolf Among Us, a first-look at the Xbox Series X, and the confirmation of the first game for PlayStation 5.
