Henry Cavill Is Teasing A Mass Effect Project, And The Internet Has Lost It

Mass Effect 5, anyone?

Our boy Henry Cavill, from Man of Steel and The Witcher, has only gone and teased some sort of a secret Mass Effect project and the internet went into an absolute meltdown.

The second season of The Witcher has suffered from numerous delays and issues arising from the pandemic, starting and stalling production over the course of 2020 and into 2021. Fortunately, things are underway once again now that Cavill has recovered from his leg injury and with every day that passes, we inch ever closer to seeing Geralt, Ciri and Yennefer return to the small screen. Yesterday, the actor posted a photo of himself in the makeup chair in a trailer on set, and wrote a very curious caption. "Secret project? Or just a handful of paper with random words on it.... Guess you'll have to wait and see. Happy hump day all," he said, and as we all know, when you put "Henry Cavill" plus "secret project" together, you're bound to get gumshoes popping up all over the shop.

Gamepressure was one such sleuth. By editing the photo from Instagram, the blur over the sheets of paper Cavill was holding was wiped away and there are a handful of Mass Effect words that are now legible. "Cerberus", "Reaper", "Geth" and "Tali'Zorah" appear, and Gamepressure connected the dots and discovered that this snippet of text is from the English Wikipedia entry for Mass Effect 3. See it for yourself here (but avoid clicking this if you're holding on to play the Mass Effect: Legendary Edition for the first time, because spoilers abound).

Now, we know that Cavill is buff, but he's a video games buff too. He adores Total War, and "genuinely can't get enough of the [Warhammer 40,000] lore they have built over the decades." For his own interpretation of Geralt of Rivia, he delved into the books and the games alike, and even took cues from the character's voice actor, Doug Cockle. It's possible that he's brushing up on his Mass Effect knowledge before the Legendary Edition releases in spring... or it's possible that he's been cast in Mass Effect 5. The Mass Effect series loves a celebrity cameo or three: Andromeda snagged legends like Clancy Brown, Kumail Nanjiani, Gethin Anthony, and Natalie Dormer, to name but a few.

Needless to say, the prospect of Cavill starring in a Mass Effect project has our heads spinning on our shoulders, and we're hoping he lends his voice to a Turian. Or, hear me out: a himbo Krogan with a heart of gold who wants to crush everything and spends night after night out on the tiles. Wouldn't you love to see it? For now, we'll hold our horses, but we'll update you as and when we learn more.
