Call Of Duty: Modern Warfare is finally out in the wild after months of hype, controversy, discourse, and debate. Let's be honest, you've probably already made your mind up on whether or not you're gonna buy the game at this point, if you're on the fence? Well, read on to see what critics have made of Infinity Ward's gritty and authentic reboot.
Given that most critics don't seem to have much hands-on time with the game ahead of launch, the majority of critical impressions on Modern Warfare so far seem to be based around the game's campaign - an element of the title that Infinity Ward and Activision have really been pushing too.
With that in mind, the consensus so far seems to be that Modern Warfare is a real return to form for the franchise. The game's campaign has its fair share of divisive moments that will no doubt inspire deep dives and longer pieces in the coming weeks, but by and large? Critics seem to be happy with the gameplay and visuals, and there's lots of praise the campaign for trying something new.
While our own detailed impressions won't be coming till a little bit later on, our very own Mark Foster had this to say after finishing the campaign:

"While Modern Warfare's story isn't the true reboot many fans would have been hoping for, its action movie vibe will certainly entertain the steadfast CoD faithful. Those hoping for a little more moral complexity outside of the gorgeous set-piece battles will likely be left wanting in the admittedly enjoyable thrillride."
GameSpot's review in progress awards the game a 7/10, arguing that the while "not all the new multiplayer modes are great, Gunfight and the Night Vision playlist are refreshing standouts." As for the campaign, GameSpot argues that it ultimately plays it safe in the end, but manages to be a memorable experience that "lays a strong foundation" for the future of the series.
PC Gamer awarded the game an 80, calling it a "promising platform for new ideas" and "the Call of Duty to beat", while GamesRadar's 4/5 review praised the combat, controls, visuals, and audio, but wondered if the campaign could have been executed better.

The Daily Star also gave the game 4/5, calling it "a return to the high-tech contemporary carnage that made the Modern Warfare franchise so compelling the first time."
