Days Gone 2 is, well, gone. As you've almost certainly heard by now, Sony reportedly rejected SIE Bend Studio's pitch for the open-world zombie sequel all the way back in 2019. Bend is currently hard at work on a new IP, but the fans are desperate for more adventures with brooding biker Deacon.

Fans first learned of the fate of Days Gone 2 via a Bloomberg report on Sony's current approach to AAA titles. The long and short of it is that Sony wants to focus on blockbuster titles that it knows will be a success. That's why Naughty Dog is currently working on a remake of The Last Of Us as well as yet another Uncharted sequel. Given the muted critical reception to Days Gone, Sony opted not to move forward with the sequel pitch Bend delivered.

Of course in a world where fans can petition for just about anything, we're now seeing some of the more hardcore Days Gone fans rally to let Sony know they still want a sequel. Social media is currently awash with pleas to revive Days Gone 2. Will these cries come to anything? Who can say. If nothing else, I bet it's lovely for the team at Bend to see all this support for their 2019 game.

While Days Gone 2 clearly isn't happening anytime soon, Bend hasn't completely ruled out the possibility of a return. "Days Gone has sold more copies than every game the studio has ever made combined," the game's director Jeff Ross explained on God Of War creator David Jaffe's podcast. "So it's successful in that way, and in the community and player response."

He added that a sequel was very much a "never say never" situation. Hopefully the fans can keep the flame alive long enough so that Deacon can return one day. Watch this space.
