The rumours were true. Sony just kicked off its long-awaited 2021 PlayStation 5 showcase with a bang, giving us our very first look at the upcoming Star Wars: Knights Of The Old Republic Remake!

As was previously rumoured, the remake of the beloved BioWare RPG is being handled by Aspyr, who previously took point on the excellent mobile ports of the original game and its sequel. Take a look at the all-too brief reveal trailer below, which confirms the original is being completely "remade for PlayStation 5". No word on other platforms at the time of writing.

Knights Of The Old Republic
was originally developed by BioWare and released all the way back in 2003.. A sequel from Obsidian was released in 2004, but the series has remained on ice since then. It still kind of baffles me that EA, who owns BioWare, never revived KOTOR when it won the exclusive rights to publish Star Wars video games back in 2013. Ah well, it's back now.

This brand-new remake comes months after the news that EA lost the exclusive rights and Lucasfilm Games was put back in the frame to work with developers and publishers on a larger and more diverse range of Star Wars projects. We've already heard that one such title is an open-world project from Ubisoft Massive. There were also rumblings of a brand-new KOTOR, though it could well be that insiders were referring to this remake.
