Congratulations to Red Dead Redemption 2 and the team at Rockstar for winning Steam's Game of 2020. The RPG western has wowed gamers of all ages with its gorgeous graphics, complex emotional story, and top-tier world-building, which is why it didn't win just one, but two of the Steam awards.
Red Dead Redemption 2 sauntered away from the Steam Awards with Outstanding Story-Rich Game too, which is nothing to be neighed at. It beat other titles like Metro: Exodus, Horizon: Zero Dawn, Detroit: Become Human, and Mafia to take the title while it beat DOOM Eternal, Hades, Fall Guys, and Death Stranding to take Game of the Year.
Despite RDR2 originally releasing back in 2018, a late 2019 release on Steam allowed it to be considered in the category. The storefront specialises in PC (and Mac, I guess) releases so anything confined to console that gets a later release date gets to enter these awards when they hit the platform. As such, Death Stranding, a 2019 PlayStation title that came to PC in 2020, also won an award: Most Innovative Gameplay.
Other successful awardees include Half-Life: Alyx for VR Game of the Year, Counter-Strike: Global Offensive for Labor of Love, and Ori and The Will of The Wisps for Outstanding Visual Style. Best Soundtrack went to DOOM Eternal, Sit Back and Relax was awarded to The Sims 4, and hilariously Best Game You Suck At went to battle royale Apex Legends. For those that wanted to play with friends though, the game that won out was Fall Guys: Ultimate Knockout.
Oh, and before we forget, January 5 is the last day of the Steam Winter Sale so hurry up if you're looking for a good gaming deal. Don't know where to start? Here's our helpful list of some of the best deals up for grabs.
