What is Rockstar planning for us?

Rockstar, dude, come on this is getting a little ridiculous. It seems the development company wants to do anything but give us Grand Theft Auto 6 because now the team is hinting at 20th birthday celebrations for Grand Theft Auto III. This, apparently, includes some new GTA III-related content and okay, our interest is piqued.

In a blog post, Rockstar Games has revealed that it will be planning something special for the 20th birthday of the "genre-defining" GTA 3. While giving us more details about the rerelease of GTA V for Xbox Series S/X and PlayStation 5, the devs also slip in a little hint at that GTA 3-related content.

While we're waiting for any news of Grand Theft Auto 6, fans have been playing around with GTA V to reimagine some of their favourite Rockstar projects. Check out what one player thinks a Vice City 2 would look like...

In the "And Much More" section of the development update the company says that "in honor of the upcoming 20th anniversary of the genre defining Grand Theft Auto III, we'll have even more fun surprises to share - including some specifically for GTA Online players." Intriguingly, I think I speak for many when I say I would have assumed that all this celebratory content would be for the online game. What else could Rockstar be releasing?

Well of course there is the possibility of a Grand Theft Auto III rerelease though that feels unlikely but not altogether impossible. As a personal fan theory, I wouldn't be surprised if the PlayStation 5 / Xbox Series X release of GTA V got a mission dedicated to the events or characters of GTA III somehow. That's just a personal theory though, and I'm sure each and every one of Rockstar's fans have a different idea of what "fun surprises" the company has in the works.
