Fans are keen that the character gets a very different type of weapon, though.

The second season of The Mandalorian was an action-packed affair and had some surprises that threw even the brainiest of Star Wars boffins for a loop. Now, this new promotional poster sheds a little light on what might be in store for the third season.

The thing is, the show might not be returning to the small screen for some time, considering the sheer number of other Star Wars projects that Disney is juggling. The Book Of Boba Fett - featuring you know who - is definitely coming out before the third season of The Mandalorian and will arrive in December, if all proceeds as planned. Furthermore, Ahsoka is currently in limbo but recent rumours make it sound like production is stepping up a notch with the castings of two central characters from Star Wars Rebels. Pedro Pascal is confirmed to be on board the third season, however, his schedule is pretty packed because he's working with HBO on their The Last Of Us adaptation. Which, I will add, is looking rather good.

This isn't to say that we're in the dark about the continuation of Din Djarin and Grogu's journey fighting for the light side of the Force and undermining the iron grip that the Empire holds over the galaxy. "I am told what's happening and what the plan is, but I can't share it," said Pascal in an interview with IndieWire. "They are in the expansion of this world, where there are so many unexpected surprises and timelines that are going to be dealt with."

Timelines, you say? Go on. "If the character were to cross over into these worlds, it will be utilized in a way that isn't meant to be expected," continued the actor. "I wouldn't want to spoil the surprise of whether or not characters from the show we already know are crossing over." Interesting. I would stroke my chin contemplatively, but I'm not actually sure what he means. Pascal was probably attempting to be as obscure as possible to prevent any smart alecs from finding out what the team has in store for the future of The Mandalorian.

However, with no specific date stated for the third season, fans are twiddling their thumbs until an official update lands. This new poster featuring Grogu and Luke Skywalker will no doubt spark a number of theories, though, so all is not lost. Artist Russell Walks shared the piece that he created for Comic-Con@Home which is an exclusive wall poster on sale through Shop Trends. Regrettably, it is already sold out, but it might reveal the sort of Jedi that Grogu is going to become.

The kyber crystal, hovering in Luke's hand, is yellow. Different kyber colours signify different classes of Force wielder. So, a blue lightsaber is used by a Jedi Guardian, a green lightsaber is used by a Jedi Consular, and a yellow lightsaber is used by a Jedi Sentinel. Sentinels balance both their proficiency in combat with their understanding of the principles of the Jedi and the history that underpinned them. At the end of The Rise Of Skywalker, we see that Rey has chosen this path for herself as she carves out her own space in the galaxy after the fall of Palpatine.

Be that as it may, some viewers are certain that Grogu is the one to inherit the darksaber. As he has been adopted by Din Djarin, he is technically Mandalorian, and the darksaber was an artefact of House Visla. If he trains to become a Jedi under Luke's tutelage, he might be the rational choice for the next individual to wield the weapon. We'll have to wait and see if this theory plays out.
