'Fable 4' Is In Safe Hands With Forza Studio, Says Xbox Boss

Fable 4 is one of the most highly anticipated Xbox games announced. Playground Games was officially revealed as the development team working on the title at E3 last year. This, however, came as no surprise as it was one of the worst-kept secrets in the games industry and all fans needed was a trailer to seal the deal. Although Fable 4 wasn't at the Xbox and Bethesda showcase at E3 2021, Phil Spencer has reassured fans that the game they'll get from the Playground Games will be incredible.

The executive vice president of gaming of Microsoft - so, basically, the boss of Xbox - Spencer recently appeared on the Dropped Frames podcast, and VGC spotted him saying that the Fable series is in good hands at Playground. Right now though, the British studio's priority is getting Forza Horizon 5 out of the door, which was shown at E3 2021. Its debut trailer wowed audiences with its incredible level of detail, weather systems, and its new Mexican setting.

In case you missed it, this Forza Horizon 5 trailer will show you just some of what Playground Games is capable of...

In the interview, Spencer says: "The only thing I can really say about Fable is, seeing the pedigree of the team and Playground, and where they set the bar for themselves in building a game. I think that showed with the Forza Horizon 5 preview that they had - I think people should just take confidence in that [studio director] Gavin [Raeburn] and the team there has that same level of focus on doing something amazing with an IP that we know is really important to a lot of Xbox fans, so we can't wait to get to show more, but the team is just amazing."

It has been reported that the new Fable game will actually be developed in the ForzaTech engine too, so that the high level of polish we have seen in the Forza games is likely going to be present in Fable 4. (Which may or may not actually be called Fable 4, of course - we shall wait and see.)

Naturally, Spencer is going to be supporting Playground Games in getting the new Fable to be the best it can be, which is going to take a while. We don't expect to see any solid release window for Fable 4 for a couple of years, but we can't wait for it to carry us back to Albion.
