Horizon Forbidden West DLC confirms Aloy is gay

Well, it is shaping up to be an incredible week for Horizon fans. Yesterday, the highly-anticipated follow-up DLC to Horizon Forbidden West dropped. Titled Burning Shores, the expansion sees Aloy travel to the ruins of Los Angeles after she is informed by Sylens of an important and imminent new threat.

Back when Burning Shores was announced, it stirred up some controversy. Whereas Horizon Forbidden West was available on PlayStation 4 and PlayStation 5 consoles, Burning Shores is a PS5-exclusive. The expansion will, assumedly, also mark actor Lance Reddick’s final appearance in the franchise following his tragic passing last month. If you thought that Burning Shores was simply a new beefy side quest, you’re very wrong. Serving as a set-up for the as-yet unannounced Horizon 3, this is a DLC that fans aren’t going to want to miss. It also includes a major personal revelation for Aloy.

Warning: minor Burning Shores story spoilers lie ahead. As reported by The Gamer, Burning Shores has confirmed that Aloy is gay. The DLC sees Aloy explore the ruins of Los Angeles with a Quen tribe member by the name of Sekya. As the story unfolds, it’s clear to see that the duo share a special connection that only continues to grow. I won’t delve into the specifics, as the story is best experienced for yourself but it’s a joy to see Aloy actually doing something for herself instead of saving the world all the time on her own.

It turns out that Aloy’s confidence in regards to her feelings for Sekya is actually determined by the player. In the story, Sekya tells Aloy, “I want to be with you and I was hoping that you felt the same way”. Aloy can then say, “Yes I do”, “I’m not ready for this”, or “This is too much for me”. Either way, it’s clear that Aloy is in love with Sekya. These dialogue options simply determine whether she’s ready to admit it.

Needless to say, fans are thrilled. Twitter user yeahbumbleby wrote, “Me from 2017 just collapsed like this somewhere across the timeline because we finally got the confirmation that Aloy is canonically gay years later,” while beidouka added, “Aloy being canonically gay, my life is complete.” Hellotheø2926334 commented, “ALOY KISSED SEKYA, WHAT MY GAY HEART IS POUNDING HEAVILY RN”.
