Jack Black Suffered Serious Injury While Pretending To Be Injured

Jack's back

Actor, musician, and penis push-up world champion Jack Black has shed a little more light on the brutal injury that put him out of action for nearly a year.

In a recent episode of his YouTube show Jablinski Games - the first in quite some time - Black told fans where he'd been and what 'd been going on with him.

"I might as well tell you the whole damn story," Black told viewers, before diving into the incredible story of how he managed to mangle his foot while... pretending to injure himself.

Non-American readers might not be aware, but Black actually genuinely hurt himself while filming a sketch for the final episode of Conan O'Brien's talk-show Conan, which aired last summer.

Black was in the process of pre-recording a musical number, during which the plan was for him to pretend he'd hurt himself before actors playing paramedics took him away on a Gurney. He'd shake off the "injury" and run back to the theatre to continue his performance anyway.

The star explained on Conan at the time that he'd messed up his foot as a result of the skit, appearing on the talk show wielding a special cast.

“Today I went and just to be safe I got an MRI and they were like, ‘it’s a real sprain, you got some damage there. You’re gonna have to take it easy, no dancing, no running, no physical craziness for a while,’” Black said on the show.

In his latest YouTube upload, Black elaborated further on the accident and shared some wince-inducing behind-the-scenes footage of the moment he knew he'd done something serious. He revealed that his doctor told him to take at least six months off, advice that he decided to heed after a previous incident.

"The truth is, I sprained my ankle like 15 years ago on King Kong", Black told viewers. "And back then, I did get up like five days later because you can't mess around on movies. You can't get behind schedule. Every day is like a million bucks. So I wrapped it up tight and did it. Also I was a younger man at the time."

So there you have it: 2021 saw a relative lack of Jack Black because he was nursing that foot back to health. But now he's back, and is almost definitely not planning to sue Conan. Probably. Guess we'll see.
