Jack Black was reportedly shocked and amazed by the critical reception of the Super Mario Bros Movie, and is thankful people didn’t listen to bad reviews.
The Super Mario Bros Movie broke records as one of the biggest animated films of all time. It’s Nintendo’s beloved mascot’s second go at a big-screen story and thankfully it turned out much better than the live-action one did, it’s best we never speak of that one again…

Let’s be fair, fans were certainly sceptical and many doubted Christ Pratt would do a good job as the famous video game plumber but were pleasantly surprised with how good the film actually was. It wasn’t everyone’s cup of tea though, and was met with scathing reviews from critics for some of the wildest reasons, like the story not making sense.

Jack Black, who lent his voice to the King of the Koopas and Mario antagonist Bowser has since spoken out on the poor reviews, and is thankful people didn’t listen to them when deciding if they should see the film.
Speaking in the latest issue of Total Film (reported by GamesRadar) Jack Black talked about his upcoming role in the Minecraft film, and looked back on the critical reception to the Super Mario Bros Movie.
Black said, "It came out and it got horrible reviews. I was like, 'What movie did they see?' Luckily, the world didn't listen to Rotten Tomatoes, and it was one of the biggest hits of all time."
The new Minecraft film will not be an animated flick, instead it’ll be live-action which could be the best or worse decision for the success of the film. Whether it can muster up a similar level of charm the Mario film had is yet to be seen, but if Jack Black is involved it’ll at least be entertaining.
