Legacy Of Kain remake finally on the horizon

Legacy Of Kain remake finally on the horizon

The survey is open to everyone.

Legacy of Kain likers, this is your moment. Crystal Dynamics is testing the waters of a possible remake or revival with a survey sent out to fans over the weekend - which you can fill out for yourself here.

Rumours of a Soul Reaver remake swirled in the summer of 2021, with a potential reveal at one of the numerous big games events that have popped up after E3 put things on pause for a bit. Obviously that didn't happen, and since then, Square Enix has come a cropper with the financial floundering of Marvel's Avengers and trying to ameliorate the increasing costs from its studios. In May, Square Enix sold Crystal Dynamics, Eidos Montreal and Square Enix Montreal to Embracer Group, and Embracer Group announced that it was very interested in investigating these three companies' libraries of games for future products.

Treat your eardrums to some super satisfying retro gaming ASMR here:

"After the end of the quarter, we further strengthened our development capabilities and IP-portfolio by entering into an agreement to acquire Crystal Dynamics, Eidos Montreal, and Square Enix Montreal, including Tomb Raider, Deus Ex, Thief, and Legacy of Kain and other IPs... We see a great potential, not only in sequels, but also in remakes, remasters, spinoffs, as well as transmedia projects across the Group," said the company. Now that the keys to Legacy of Kain are in the developer's hands, it looks we're closer to a return than ever before.

I'm not familiar with the series, given that I was not even one year old when Blood Omen: Legacy of Kain came out, yet the hype is apparent online. Yes, I do find it fun to remind strangers of their mortality. Anyway. "In reality, a soft-reboot would likely be ideal," said theAllseeingEYE on Resetera. "It would be super cool to see them take it all the way back to Blood Omen, that game needs a remake the most, but I'd be happy if they just went back to Soul Reaver 1. I'm sitting here imagining a new LOK game done by modern CD in UE5, and that just sounds like more than I would have ever expected." Watch this space.
